Qalandia Checkpoint 20/09/2011. On the picture, the "humanitarian lane" overcrowed. There were at least 50 people waiting, incluing sick people, children going to school and women with babies. This was around 6:30, after there is shift change, when more checkpoint personal come and more lanes are open. What happen though, is that after the shift change, when there more soldiers and private security people, as well as more lanes open, the flow became much more slower than before. Why? According to the Machsom Watch ladies monitoring the checkpoint, it was a form of collective punishment, because of the Palestinian State UN bid that same day. The children going to school weren't able to pass and came back. There were some crushes and an ugly fight between Palestinians at the queue, ending with two of them been taken away by the soldiers and the security personal. |
